Finals Week: The Final Hour

Well, kiddles, this is it. The big kahuna, the last night of my freshman year of college. Shit. The last night I will sit in the dark quad, at my empty desk, avoiding work (or packing), typing random nothings by the light of my laptop screen. Well, as a freshman at least. It's absolutely insane to think that mere months ago I sat by this same screen in the same conditions mortified at living on my own, fascinated by all the shit you learn at college. Not to say I'm not still fascinated (spotted in the parking lot: light saber battle) because I don't think that college will ever cease to surprise me, but I now sit before you (and by that I mean before this screen, behind the words you're reading right now) a wiser, more college-savvy blogger. With all sorts of college wisdom and college friends and roommates who I will miss a SHIT-TON. I can't believe how quickly time goes by. 1/4 (hopefully) of my remaining education is over....and I feel like just yesterday I was introducing myself to everyone as Koala Krysti, from the quad, art education major. And now I'm saying goodbye, still the same old koala Krysti but now with bangs, and slouchy boots, and blue mascara, and a cape, and an adventure time ring tone, and a deeper knowledge of the human psyche and new friends, and a better understanding of how to live with people, and a new appreciation for home-cooked meals and family and clean showers.

Holy crap, is all I can say.

At this point, I'm sure you're all thinking "we get it, you're done a year at college, move on" and to you people I say "shut the hell up, this is MY blog, I'll write what I want, and why the hell are you reading this anyway?" And then I'm going to continue to reminisce. I don't often go mushy, let alone where people can see, but I feel like this occasion calls for some mush. So: points where mush will be directed (in no particular order):
  1. My roommates. I don't think that anyone (except maybe peas-n-carrots) will fully understand the dynamics of my room. Basically you take four completely random people, remove one and replace them, and throw them all in a decently sized room and see what happens. With most people, someone would be dead by week two. With the quad; I don't know if I'll ever be able to sleep alone again (don't twist it, this is a place of mush)
  2. My friends from school. So, I was scared shitless when I came to college that no one would like me. I mean, considering my obnoxious nature and general nerdy/weirdness I was pretty much set on spending a lot of time alone. Nah nah nah. This year I've met some of the most amazing assortment of people, from all my Diehmers <3 to my art class buddies, to the random other mixes of people I've met in clubs and classes. And they're all 1000% so rad-ly mathematical that I cannot even begin to explain to you and I cannot even begin to thank them here or anywhere else for being as fantastic as they are. I love you guys and want to thank you for an INCREDIBLE year.
  3. My friends from home: You thought I was gonna forget y'all didn't you? Not a snowball's chance in hell kiddles. I've missed you like crazy, but absence makes the heart grow fonder, and this absence has simply made me appreciate you all even more. And I know that I can always call/text/email/messenger pigeon/wall post/message/skype you whenever I need you and you'll be there.
  4. My Mom: The one person I could always count on to be there, reading emails at two in the morning whenever I was upset or needed someone to type to. Who sends me care packages and lets me use her credit card to by train tickets to DC and who sends words of love and support on facebook, even though she's not quite sure how to do it. Who can always say something to make me feel better, and keep me updated and recommend good books to read now that she's in a book club. I love her dearly and know it's been hard adapting and miss her like crazy. <3<3<3
There, mush over. Coming soon: krysti's freshman's guide to college!!

In Case You Haven't Noticed

Now that I've gotten your attention:

I'd like to direct y'alls attention to the sidebar, where there is currently a poll takin' place on what my blog should be called during the summah. I'd also like to take this moment to thank my one and only blog reader. SHOUTOUTTTT!!! Have a nice night kiddles :)

Finals Week: Hour 1

So, I've officially re-descended into the hell they call finals week. Though I'm hoping to escape relatively unscathed with only one written final, a presentation, and a self-portrait, my comrades may not be so lucky. The stress is descending upon my living quarters and the tension is palpable [this is a dramatisation, there isn't really ever much tension in the quad]. So far, we've done our best to ward off the impending darkness, fighting it off with the best weapons we have: Adventure Time, capes, dinosaur chicken nuggets, stromboli, and Family Guy. I hope and pray that our make-shift defenses are enough to ward off the cloud of doom that looms nearer and nearer to campus. Food supplies are dwindling, as UD is forced to resort to serving stale cereal and next to nothing good (big shocker, I know). While others are relying on more cliche methods of dealing with stress, such as drinking their weight in alcohol and stealing people's shoes whilst they are trying to use less illegal ways of ending the year, like playing wink (which is super-fun, I'm sorry I was so against it before this weekend). I fear my chin and hands have become permanently stained with charcoal as I enter the home stretch. The three Ts and POD are playing on repeat inside my skull as I mentally process A. how all this shit ended up in my room and B. how I'm going to get all this shit out of my room. Needless to say, it's going to be a long few days. Check back periodically for updates, if I haven't succumbed to carpel tunnel first....godspeed fellow test-takers, godspeed.

Stepping Up to the Soapbox

I just flipped over to facebook and was reminded of something that has pissed me off to no end recently. 'GAY' is NOT a synonym for 'stupid.' Nor is it a derogatory term. I HATE PEOPLE WHO USE IT AS SUCH. THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR IT! There are plenty of gays out there (I can think of several) who have more talent, personality, and fantastic-ness in one eyelash than many people have in their whole body. Not only is it hurtful to use the term in such a way, it's downright ignorant and needs to stop. Though I hope that anyone reading this is intellegent enough not to be doing this, I don't live under a rock and I know that tons of people say it. I'm not pointing fingers, but please please please, think twice before you say 'that's so gay' or use it as an insult. It's rude and insenitive. And don't give me any bullshit about how it's just a force of habit or a 'cultural norm' because that is exactly that: bullshit. Just because something is widely used does not make it any more right. It needs to stop. Now.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox. Sorry for the rant. Just hit a nerve I guess.

Ohhhhh The Great Outdoors

So, this is a little late, but here's what I learned on our awesome camping trip to Assateague this past weekend:
  • Girl Scouts choose the worst possible times to sing (god I hope I wasn't like that...)
  • Open beaches are a great place to toss old fish hooks.
  • Assateague ponys are short and fat and like to scratch their noses on grills and tents.
  • I would make a great dad; I can grill a kick-ass burger while holding a solo cup (filled with SODA) in one hand.
  • I never want to eat another hamburger.
  • The number they tell you can fit in a tent is actually the number of Girl/Boy Scouts that will fit.
  • Van benches are super comfy for sleeping.
  • What a mountian pie is.
  • How awesome night vision googles are (FREAKING SWEET)
  • The various uses for an E-Tool (also FREAKING SWEET)
  • How not good tents are at being in wind.
  • That you can actually find conch shells at the beach
  • How awesome we are at randomly chosing the weekend there is a kite festival in any given place.
  • Digeredoos exist
  • Wendy's likes to keep their drivethrough and kitchen lights on when they are in fact, closed.
  • I cannot run on less than 12 hours of sleep over the course of a weekend.
  • Washers are no match for sand. Neither are converses
  • I can't wait to go back to the beach.
  • Frisbee's super fun :)
  • I am not phone-dependant
  • College has taught me buying will-power!
  • A twelve person van can actually fit thirteen people and their baggage or seventeen people with no baggage.
  • Men are terrible with directions.
  • I'm terrible at keeping fires going.
  • Never ask questions about the quality of the hamburgers you are eating.
  • Greese and propane don't really mix well, though they cook a speedy burger.
  • Burying things in sand does not equal freshness.
  • People actually sleep in those little triangle two-flap stereotypical tents!
  • Those aformentioned tents are not recomended.
  • Burt's Bees pomogranate is, in fact, lip balm. And will stain your lips.
  • People are now texting and biking on the boardwalk...wonderful.
  • Zebra print is the new 'thing' for beach hoodies. Want one!!
So much learning on such an awesome weekend (which was actually awesome, dispite some rain and extremely sexist yet hilarious campfire tales)!!! Just two art projects, a speech, a powerpoint, and a final and I'm done for the summer (meaning more beach trips!!) It's so insane to think that a little over 120 blog posts ago I was a naive freshman who knew nothing of the weath of information college had to share with me!  Since coming here I've had all sorts of crazy (lame, in most people's deffinition, but I wouldn't trade 'em) adventures and misadventures and met a crap-load of awesome people. I feel like the year flew by! But look at me, all nostalgic, and I'm not even outta the woods yet! More sappy stuff later, Imma go and draw some random stuff and prep for my mini-speech tomorrow (How to Be Gaga: The Three Ds of Being Fabulous). I'm in such a great mood!! Dunno why, but who cares! Have a mathmatical night!!!!!

Since When Are Oranges Used In Landscaping?

Hello kiddles, I'm back from a long-ass weekend camping. A looooooooong-ass weekend. But more on that later. This post is just some housekeeping. So here's our chore list today dearies:
  1. Make y'all aware that if you've already checked out the 'Spotted in the Art Building' post, that you should take another look, it's been updated with somemore crazy shit that I took just for y'all :)
  2. To those of you Gleeks and non Gleeks who took a second to vote, shanks :)
  3. WATCH THIS IMMEDIATELY
Don't worry kiddles (new favorite word, in case you can't tell. Rhymes with 'skittles'), I have plenty of new material for the blog, including some featured artist shenanegans, plenty of camping stories, and a freshman survival guide. However, like any good reality show knows, in order to generate your interest, I need to tell you about all the exciting things coming up, then keep you waiting while I air ten commercials for the same thing, while you die of suspense.

TTFN: Ta ta for now!
